How to Use Lamisil AT Cream or Spray to Treat Tinea Versicolor

A few years ago, I had a skin rash that wouldn't go away. Although it wasn't very itchy or bothersome, it was unsightly enough that I decided to seek the advice of a dermatologist. After a quick examination, the doctor told me that I had tinea versicolor, which is a very common skin rash which is caused by the overgrowth of a fungus on the skin. The doctor wrote me a prescription for an anti-fungal cream, but when I got to the pharmacy I found out that the cream was not covered by my insurance since tinea versicolor is considered a cosmetic condition. I could not afford the prescription, so I went home and began to search the internet to see if I could find an over-the-counter treatment for tinea versicolor.

After searching for just a few minutes, I found out that there are many over-the-counter products with anti-fungal medication that can clear up the rash caused by tinea versicolor. Some of the easiest to find products that contain anti-fungal medicine are products meant to cure athlete's foot, like Lamisil AT Cream or Spray. Athlete's foot is also caused by a fungus, so Lamisil contains the same anti-fungal ingredient that many prescription creams also contain. 

To treat tinea versicolor using Lamisil AT, you'll need to apply the product once per day for at least two weeks. If the area of skin affected by tinea versicolor is small, you may find that Lamisil AT cream is best, while the Lamisil AT spray is better for treating larger areas of skin like the chest and torso. Both of the products are unscented and dry clear, making them easy to apply daily. After a few days of using the Lamisil product, you will notice the brown splotches caused by tinea versicolor start to fade. This fading will continue over the next couple of weeks until your skin returns completely to normal. 

Once you have gotten rid of the tinea versicolor using the Lamisil cream or spray, you no longer need to apply the product daily. However, it is recommended that you continue to apply the Lamisil a couple of times per week to keep the tinea versicolor rash from returning. Lamisil AT cream and spray each cost less than ten dollars, and selecting a store brand of the product can save you even more money. This is a much more cost effective way to treat your skin rash when compared with a prescription cream or spray. If your tinea versicolor is still bothering you after using Lamisil as directed above, you may need to seek a stronger medication from your doctor. However, most tinea versicolor sufferers will find that Lamisil AT cream or spray is a very good over-the-counter treatment option for their rash.
